Carlton Smith

Carlton works in Civic Foundry’s Technology Delivery practice, leading specialist analysis and delivery across digital asset management, metadata architecture, content migration, digital preservation and solution architecture. He also leads Civic Foundry’s rapid prototyping capability, using emerging technologies and AI-assisted development to turn ideas into working solutions quickly and test concepts before committing to larger-scale delivery.

Carlton has led the modernisation of complex audiovisual and archival environments, strengthening provenance, long-term preservation and access to Commonwealth records. His work has also included the design of cloud architectures for the preservation, management and delivery of parliamentary audiovisual collections.

Previously, Carlton directed enterprise digital asset, media asset and collection management programs at TransMedia Dynamics, delivering solutions for broadcasters, archives and cultural institutions across Australia, Asia and the United States.

His experience combines deep domain knowledge of digital collections with practical technology delivery, helping organisations move from strategy and architecture through to prototypes, implementation and operational solutions.
